I read a comment on a blog the other day which read something along the likes of:
"I am all for freedom of speech, but don't do it on my blog".
Basically the blog author was objecting to someone posting comments of a different point of view.
This comment typifies the Middle East - As long as you don't disagree with their view, speak all you want, but if you do disagree with them, then shut up and don't express it (you know the drill: this is our country/region/people - you don't belong here or understand the history blah blah blah).

7days printed an article yesterday commenting on how hard it was to make friends in the UAE.
Do you want to know why it is hard to make friends in the UAE (especially friends of different cultures). Cos we are a bunch of asses - simple. The socio-economic situation doesn't help either.
You generally don't see too many subcons in the more expensive places (part of the reason being they are not allowed in) even though they are about 60% of the population. You don't see many multicultural groups of friends hanging around.
The only racial mixing (on a social level) I see these days are incredibly pathetic old Brit/European guys with extremely young asian women. Just sad on every level.

For now, arrogance is not the solution, now's the time to heal oneself and those that have been hurt or those that have been affected: these may be your own, friends, family and the nameless many. There'll always be another day to take the bull by its horns and/or tackle this matter with those you hold accountable. When that time comes, could you do it with the same arrogance you depict now? yes those are not just family members that are effected. I am directly effected too and have been all my life.
If you were to read my blog you would see that.
Healing myself was and still is the quest of a lifetime as evidenced by my last post. As I said my family is directly affected in both countries. Palestine and Lebanon. I am the product of a displaced refugee and his now displaced wife. My children will be displaced refugees too. How dare you talk about healing when the pain is renewed and continued ever since before I was born. How dare any of you talk about finding a justification for this type of thing.
If there were to ever come another situation with which I dealt in arrogance with it?
Two years ago the Tsunami hit Indonesia and surrounding areas, one year ago almost the quake in pakistan.
I facilitated drop offs for those with no time to drop off their donations.
I collected donations and dropped them off at centers.
I sent out mass mails asking people to donate.
I volunteer every other Saturday now at a center for children with special needs. All are mostly from India, Pakistan and other similiar locations. I tutored autistic children growing up not knowing they were autistic and when they got accepted into special schools I cried with their mothers.
You know nothing of me or my situation. So back off with the talk about arrogance. If that's arrogance then I'm an idiot.
I can't see arrogance anywhere. All I see is helplessness and frustration.
I asked Em to remove his comments when I could not deal with any of this. When the shock was still alive and had over taken my entire thought process. When my father was on the highway to Syria and I hadn't heard from him and Al Jazeera announced the road had been bombed. I didn't even know he got on the plane until I saw him walking through the Gates at Dubai Airport. Try living with that.
I asked him nicely. I asked him to sympathize instead he thought it fit to cite reasons why he saw this was justified.
I don't want people like that around me or my blog. Those that cannot offer words of condolences or sympathetic ears before putting forth critique or winging I do not need.
I still asked him to be nice and to understand at least that.
